Marc VDS will field a factory specification Honda RC213V

Marc VDS will field a factory specification Honda RC213V in the MotoGP World Championship, with Scott Redding returning to the team to lead the assault on the premier class in both 2015 and 2016.

Michael Bartholemy // Team Principal“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that has helped us to achieve our aim of racing in the premier MotoGP class, with what is clearly the most competitive bike available. Without their help, and the continued support of Marc van der Straten, this move would have remained a dream for us, but now it is a reality. Obviously we are looking forward to welcoming Scott Redding back to the fold next year, but our focus for now must be on the Moto2 World Championship, which we are currently leading with both of our riders.”

Marc van der Straten // President, Marc VDS Racing Team
“It is a great honour to be associated with Honda at the very top level of two-wheeled motorsport, especially as we are a relatively new team to the Grand Prix paddock. But, while newcomers we may be, I think we have shown quite clearly that we are there to race and there to win, which I believe reflects Honda’s philosophy also. I am excited about this new project, especially as it means a return to the Marc VDS racing family of Scott Redding, with whom we enjoyed a long and successful association in Moto2.”

Australia’s best racers compete at the Penrite Australian Supercross

As the sun set for the evening, thousands of supercross fans descended Mount Panorama to watch Australia’s best racers compete at the Penrite Australian Supercross Bathurst Showground. With a full program of racing, as well as FMX and Monster Truck performances, there was plenty of action.

With back-to-back rounds, racers had to regroup quickly and either put behind a poor result from the night before, or focus on consolidating their strong position.

In the SX1 class Suzuki rider Matt Moss once again stole the show, leading the 20-lap final from start to finish. NP Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Adam Monea replicated his performance from the night before with another solid second place finish but it was behind these two guys that the most exciting racing was taking place.

Lawson Bopping put on another charge to claim the final podium position, but it was not before battles with Jay Marmont, Kirk Gibbs, Jake Moss and Sam Martin.
At the completion of the double-header Matt Moss leads the SX1 class by six points ahead of Monea and Bopping.

“I am really happy with the way we have started the season,” Moss said. “The bike is great, the team is awesome and I am fit and healthy. Everything is gelling.

“I did make a couple of little mistakes tonight and stalled the bike towards the end of the final. Fortunately I had a healthy buffer and was able to get going again.

“We don’t have much time until next weekends double-header at Moto GP but my fitness is great and I am mentally really strong,” Moss continued.

With the experience of racing the US AMA SX series, Boardstix Motorsports Taylor Potter jockeyed his way to an early lead in the SX2 final and held the lead comfortably for well over half of the final.
Potter was passed by race winner Gavin Faith on Lap (insert) of the race. The American didn’t get the best start but progressively moved through the field and once past Potter, he was never headed.
“I actually had a pretty solid weekend,” said Faith. “After making a mistake on the first night it was good to come through with the win tonight.

“My start was horrible, but I put my head down and focused on picking the guys in front off, one-by-one.

“I am going to head back to Melbourne and put in a solid week of training before next weekends races at MotoGP. I was happy with my fitness this weekend

Rounding out the podium was KTM two-stroke pilot Kale Makeham.

In the Supercross Development class (for Under 19 racers), KTM’s Brock McLeary was the standout performer. After missing the podium at round one, McLeary finished the three races 1-2-1 to take the overall ahead of fellow KTM rider Dylan Wills. Tomas Ravenhorst, rounded out the podium.

Chad Reed second win at Anaheim

Chad Reed first win of the year at Anaheim II made him a contender, then his second win of the season this weekend at Anaheim III made him the front-runner. Chad Reed is within two points of the series points lead, and by passing Ryan Villopoto to take the lead in the main event and then holding off the determined rookie Ken Roczen for the entire distance, the Discount Tire TwoTwo Motorsport Honda rider has established himself as the man the beat in 2014! And with his favorite stop of the series coming up at San Diego, where he’s has had a lot of great finishes, Reed might just move to the front of this thing.

Reed said that while his win at Anaheim II was an emotional one, his win this weekend felt more like just being in the groove.

“The first win was an emotional one, just because it was tough and there was a lot of pressure on my shoulders,” said Reed. “Getting hurt in ’12, I wasn’t sure how things would play out. Last year I was out of shape last year, my knee wasn’t awesome, my health wasn’t awesome and with all of that going on I didn’t feel super comfortable on the bike. So all of that made that win a very emotional one. Tonight, it was just about doing solid laps.”

The win was Reed’s 43rd career victory and it put him in a tie for the all-time record at Angel Stadium with eight wins. Afterwards, Reed admitted that he and his team gambled a bit on bike setup and it paid off. “We made a few small changes to the bike, but that was risky for us, because you never know how that’s going to go” said Reed. “We went with a tire we’ve never used on this bike before; we went with an air setting we’ve never used before; so it was a pretty big gamble, but you just put faith in your guys that they make the right choices, and they did, the bike was on point. That was what it was all about, just having a bike that made the slippery track not feel as slippery.”

Ken Roczen put a lot of pressure on Reed for almost the entire distance of race and a couple of time he moved in close enough to attempt a pass, only to lose ground on another part of the track. The Red Bull KTM rider studied Reed’s lines and went for it on the last lap. “You have to be really smart in these conditions and you really have to set up before you make a pass,” said Roczen. “I was actually planning on trying to make a pass right before the finish, but then a lapper got in our way and I wasn’t able to give it a try.”
